Custom Colors for Google Calendar™ gives your events colors beyond the built-in palette, based on words in the event title.

What it does

• Pick any color with the color picker, or type a HEX code (#RGB or #RRGGBB).
• Create keyword rules such as “Title contains standup → #7B1FA2”. Upper and lower case are ignored.
• Turn rules on or off and move them up or down. The first matching rule wins.
• Text switches to black or white automatically so it stays readable.
• Optionally apply the same rules to Tasks.
• The free version includes up to three rules.

Steps

1. After installing, reload your Google Calendar tab.
2. Click the extension icon in the Chrome toolbar (pin it from the puzzle icon if you do not see it).
3. Click Add rule. Type a word from your event titles, for example meeting.
4. Choose a color with the color picker, or type a HEX code.
5. Make sure Enabled is on. Use Move up / Move down to set priority.
6. Click Save. Matching events change color.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. The free version includes up to three rules (disabled rules count too). No account is needed.

Do other people see my colors?

No. Colors are shown only in your browser, by this extension. They do not change your events, and other attendees do not see them.

Colors do not appear.

Check that you clicked Save, that the rule is enabled, and that the keyword is part of the event title. Then reload the Google Calendar tab. If several rules match, only the first one is used. This is an early version, so some calendar views may not be colored yet. If a view does not work, please tell us which one.

The wrong events are colored.

A rule matches any title that contains the keyword, so a short keyword can match more than you expect. Try a longer, more specific word, or move the more specific rule higher.

Does it work on my phone or on other computers?

It works only in Chrome on a computer where the extension is installed. It does not change the Google Calendar mobile app. If Chrome Sync is on, your rules may sync to your other signed-in Chrome browsers.

Can I color Tasks?

Yes. Turn on Also color Tasks and click Save. Tasks use the same rules.

Where does my data go?

Your rules are saved with Chrome’s storage. Event titles are read on your device only to decide which color to show. They are not stored or sent anywhere. The extension has no server and no analytics. See the privacy policy.

Why can I not add a fourth rule?

The free version allows up to three rules. Remove a rule you no longer need, then add a new one.

How do I remove my rules or the extension?

Click Remove on a rule and then Save. To remove the extension and its settings, open chrome://extensions and click Remove. Your events return to Google’s own colors.
