Presentation Timer for Google Slides™: Help

Presentation Timer shows a simple countdown on top of your Google Slides™ deck, so you can see the time remaining as you move between slides. Start, pause, resume, and reset are free.

What it does

• Countdown in minutes and seconds (default 5:00).
• Start, pause, resume, and reset.
• Place the timer in any corner.
• Keyboard shortcuts to show/hide and pause/resume.
• Turns red and flashes at zero. It never goes below zero. (If your system is set to reduce motion, it turns red without flashing.)
• Remembers the duration for each presentation.
• Works in the editor and in slideshow (full-screen) mode.

Steps

1. After installing, reload any Google Slides tab that was already open.
2. Open your presentation. Click the puzzle icon in the Chrome toolbar and pin Presentation Timer, then click its icon.
3. Enter minutes and seconds, choose a position, and click Apply duration & position. (This resets the timer.)
4. Click Start. Use Pause to pause or resume, and Reset to go back to the set time.
5. Start your slideshow. The timer keeps running while you change slides.

Shortcuts: Alt+Shift+T show/hide · Alt+Shift+P pause/resume. You can change them at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. The countdown, pause, resume, reset, corner position, and shortcuts are free. No subscription, no account, no pop-ups.

The timer does not appear.

Reload the Google Slides tab (this is needed once after installing or updating). The timer works only on presentations at docs.google.com. It is not shown on slides embedded in other websites. If the popup says “Open a Google Slides presentation”, switch to your Slides tab and open the popup again. Also check that you have not hidden it with Alt+Shift+T.

Can my audience see the timer?

Yes. The timer is shown on the main slideshow screen, so anyone who sees that screen also sees the timer. It may not appear in the separate presenter (speaker notes) window.

Does the timer keep counting when I change slides or hide it?

Yes. It keeps counting when you change slides, go full screen, or hide it. It also keeps counting if you close the popup or switch tabs.

The keyboard shortcut does not work.

Another extension or app may use the same keys. Open chrome://extensions/shortcuts and choose different keys for Presentation Timer.

Does it read my slides?

No. It does not read or collect slide contents, presentation titles, names, or email addresses. It uses only the presentation ID from the address bar to remember that presentation’s timer.

Where is my data stored?

Timer settings are saved with Chrome’s extension storage. If Chrome Sync is on, Chrome may sync the settings to your other signed-in browsers. The running state stays on your device. We run no server and receive nothing. See the privacy policy.

Can I use a different time for each presentation?

Yes. Each presentation remembers its own duration and position.

How do I remove it and its data?

Open chrome://extensions and click Remove on Presentation Timer. This removes the extension’s stored settings from Chrome. Synced browser data can be managed in your Chrome Sync settings.

Is this made by Google?

No. Presentation Timer is an independent extension. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Google LLC. Google Slides is a trademark of Google LLC.
